Where is the Life Leadership Conference Held?

Life Leadership Conference is hosted by the Cadillac Rotary Club at the Kettunen Center near Tustin, Michigan. The Kettunen Center is a complete conference and retreat facility that offers collegiate style dormitory accommodations for about 150 conferees. It has superb dining and recreational facilities, several large and small meeting rooms, a half mile of lake frontage, modern communications and learning facilities, and a congenial staff. Nestled in the rolling woodlands of Osceola County just 20 minutes south of Cadillac, the Kettunen Center provides a beautiful setting for a total learning environment. To get to the Kettunen Center, go east at the Tustin exit (exit 168) of US 131 for approximately five miles on Tustin Road to 145th Avenue, turn left, and follow the road around to the left into Kettunen Center.

What is Special for My Rotary Club?

Friday evening is reserved for guests from Rotary District 6290. Each club within the district is invited to send representatives from their club to visit the conference and interact with these gifted conferees. The evening meal is served at 6:15, followed by a speaker who will challenge the minds of all in the room. Later in the evening the staff will offer musical entertainment for conferees and guests.

What is the Cost of the Life Leadership Conference?

The cost is $325 per conferee, to be paid by the sponsoring Rotary Club. Many clubs also provide transportation to and from the conference. Most employers, upon hearing about the conference from a Rotarian, are more than willing to allow the conferee time off and some are willing to pay the wages of the conferee during the time away from the job. These young people are the future. You can help shape that future by sending representatives to the Life Leadership Conference, What else needs to be said?

Where Do I Get More Information?

www.ridistrict6290.org - carries promotional materials, documents and the Application Form. The applications can and should be completed online by LLC Candidates, then printed for local Rotary use in the selection process. Prior to May 1, Rotarians send completed

What is The Life Leadership Conference?

Rotary International District t 6290’s Life Leadership Conference has been shaping the lives of future leaders each summer since 1949.

Coming from large cities and crossroads communities alike in Michigan and Ontario, participants meet exchange students from other countries and discover a unique blend of intellectual curiosity and cultural diversity.
The program challenges young men and women who have proven leadership skills. With an agenda designed to meet the needs of these future leaders, the speakers and discussion topics test the depth of thought and provoke stimulating discussion as these intellectually gifted students share their lives, feelings, and thoughts on significant issues pertaining to their world, their country, and their community.
Past conferees have found this experience to be the most rewarding of their educational careers. School officials report a marked difference in the lives of returning conferees. Sponsoring Rotary clubs and college counselors indicate that these young people are more than willing to take an active role in their communities as a result of their attendance at this conference.

Who Attends the Life Leadership Conference?

Rotary clubs within Rotary District 6290 identify and sponsor the finest young leaders in  their communities. Students who have completed their high school junior or senior year, exchange students, and students who have completed their college freshman year are offered the opportunity to participate in this special conference.
Ideal candidates are outstanding student leaders who are a credit to their schools and communities. They are hungry for knowledge, willing to meet new friends, and eager to engage in a program that will have a lasting effect on their lives. They are, simply, the leadership of the future!

What is the Program?

The Life Leadership Conference offers the most thought-provoking motivational speakers available to challenge the conferees on issues that are vital to their world. Dynamic group discussions and exercises are aimed at allowing conferees to share their thoughts and  feelings with each other, with international exchange students, with Rotarians, and with a staff dedicated to the youth of today. Past speakers have included former U.S. Congressman Guy Vander Jagt; Mickey Knight, former Michigan Congressman; Laurie Stewart, motivational speaker; Johnnie Tuitle, motivational speaker; Morley Fraser, former Albion College football coach; Charlie Plumb, former Navy Commander and Vietnam prisoner of war; Mike Gurr, motivational speaker to Meijer Corporation; Joanne P. McCallie, Michigan State women’s  basketball coach; and many others.

The “World Wide Discussion,” where exchange students present their views on their world, is a highlight of the program. During this event conferees exchange ideas and information across international boundaries. “Dangerous Parallel” offers conferees a chance to gain insight into decision making on a world leadership level. “Are You a Poodle?” allows conferees to discover their own leadership styles. Ethical questions challenge conferees to examine who they are and what they think.

When is the Life Leadership Conference?

The 2008 Life Leadership Conference will be held from 1p.m. Wednesday, June 18 through 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 21. Conferees must attend during this entire event.
